Kaolin or china clay is a naturally occuring, hydrated aluminium silicate mineral formed by the hydrothermal degradation of granite. Benefits in coatings include effective TiO2 spacing, good opacity and matting efficiency in high PVC coatings, favourable rheology and thixotropic effects, improved sandability and enamel holdout properties.
Calcined Kaolin is an anhydrous aluminium silicate, produced by heating a fine
natural clay around 1000 °C. Benefits in coatings include high opacity and whiteness
in high PVC coatings.
Opacilite (Flash Calcined Kaolin)
This is a high performance calcined kaolin produced by a patented flash calcination
technique that creates intrinsically sealed voids within the particles, resulting in low specific
gravity and outstanding opacifying properties.
Mica is a naturally occuring phyllosilicate, that is available in a wide range of particle sizes.
Micronised, wet ground, dry ground, delaminated and non-delaminated grades are available.
Benefits in coatings include excellent mudrack resistance, good matting efficiency, barrier protection,
excellent exterior durability and chemical resistance.
